On behalf of the Division of Capitol Police, it is Cheno’s and my pleasure to welcome you to our website. The Division of Capitol Police has the distinct honor and privilege of being recognized as the first organized policing agency in the nation. Our historical roots originate at the first permanent English settlement in Jamestown, Virginia. In 1618, the Guard, consisting of 10 men was formed to protect the Governor. The Division of Capitol Police has obtained state accreditation through the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission (VLEPSC). The Division continues to be staffed by dedicated women and men who remain committed to providing progressive law enforcement and security services to Virginia's government officials, employees, citizens of the Commonwealth and its visitors. It is with great pride and with a highly professional staff of police officers, security officers, administrative staff and K-9 that we carry out our duties daily in a manner consistent with our core values of Devotion, Professionalism, and Character.

As you will see as you browse these pages, the Division of Capitol Police provides comprehensive public safety services. It is our hope that this web site will be both helpful and informative.
