Capitol Police officers are state-certified law enforcement officers (LEO) with full arrest powers and authority. Each sworn Capitol Police officer is required to successfully complete specific training to achieve their LEO certifications. Subjects taught are DCJS mandated. Officers are required to complete the following:

• Basic Police Academy within one year of employment
• Physical fitness standards
• Firearms qualifications annually
• 160 hours of field training
• 40 hours of in-service training every two years
• First Aid, CPR and AED annually
